Bedroom Design Online: Plan Your Master Bedroom in 3D

A bedroom should feel calm and work in the dark. Place the bed first, keep paths clear to the door and the wardrobe, then add soft layers of light and texture.

Typical sizes and tips

  • Common bed sizes: European double 160 × 200 cm and king 180 × 200 cm; US queen 60 × 80 in and king 76 × 80 in.
  • Leave 60–75 cm (24–30 in) on each side of the bed so both people can get in and out.
  • Keep about 90 cm (36 in) in front of a wardrobe or chest so doors and drawers open fully.
  • Avoid placing the bed directly under a window or opposite the door if you can; it is usually more restful against a solid wall.
  • Use warm, dimmable light and a bedside switch so you never cross a dark room.

Common planning guidelines, not building-code requirements. Measure your room and check local rules.

Questions about this space

How big should a master bedroom be for a king bed?

Add the bed to the clearances: a 180 × 200 cm king with 70 cm on each side and 90 cm at the foot needs about 3.2 × 2.9 m before wardrobes. Check it on the plan with your real dimensions.

Can I add a walk-in closet or wardrobe wall?

Yes. Open the walk-in closet or built-in wardrobe space to plan hanging, shelves and drawers next to the bedroom.

Which styles suit a bedroom?

Calm styles such as Japandi, wabi-sabi, Scandinavian and coastal are popular; luxury works with richer fabrics. You can switch styles at any time.
